Computer fixed

My computer finally started working again! Unfortunately, pretty much all of my files have been deleted, including all my game maker projects, so I'll have to start them over.

Also, a friend of mine got me Game Maker:Studio! It's awesome! I might decide to port my older games to HTML5 before starting work on rebuilding Enlightenment.

EDIT: Despite what I thought, my computer is still broken. So yeah.

Computer troubles

Due to my computer being horrible and breaking down, I will be unable to work on games for a while. I don't know how this will last.

Assorted nonsense

I should really stick to one project. But I don't so here are some screenshots of upcoming games that may or may not be released in the near future.
This was made for the Mini Ludum Dare "Make a Not Game" event, but I never managed to finish it. Despite what it looks like, it DOES make sense when you're playing it.
This is a minimalistic game which gets more and more complex as you go on.
Also, I'm still working on Enlightenment. It's coming along excellently, at least in my opinion. It's going to be amazing.

Churchlike Reharmonized Enlightenment

This blog post is just an excuse to post this screenshot to post this screenshot from the Deharmonized sequel, which I named "Enlightenment", at least for now. Doesn't it look pretty?

Also, I finished the the piet mondrian game, but I've decided not to release it because it's horrible.

Ludum Dare Failure

So the theme for the Ludum Dare was "evolution". It's an excellent theme in my opinion, but I couldn't think of an idea for it. So I ended up making a game based on the paintings of Piet Mondrian for no particular reason. So I'll probably finish that, then go back to work on the Deharmonized sequel.
Piet Mondrian!

...

I realize I haven't really updated this blog in a while, and I really should do so more often. Anyway, I'm currently working on the deharmonized sequel-thing. Also, Ludum dare #24 is coming up, and I'll participate in it, regardless of the quality of the theme. And now for something unusual:

???????????

Meow
Over the weekend, I got irritated with my current projects, and took a break. THIS puzzle game is what happened. It's different than any other game I've ever made, and I'm haven't decided if that's a good thing or not.

Anyway, I'm getting back to work on my projects. So yeah.

Stuff

I'm currently working on a game that was requested by a friend. It is called Derek Escapes the Pit! and it is about an idiot who falls into a pit and has a ridiculous jump height. I don't have a clue as to when it'll be finished, but hopefully before the summer ends.

Descension

Descension is finally finished! You can download it HERE. Wow, this took me way longer to complete than it should've, mainly because I got distracted by side projects. But it's done, and I glad that I finished it.

Anyway, it's a game which was based off this game that I made, which I thought could have been made better. So here we are. I think I made it a a little more difficult than it needed to be, but I think it's great nevertheless.

The music is a modified version of THIS, if you were wondering.

Ludum Dare and GMC Jam results

The judging for Ludum Dare and GMC Jam ended recently. I got 29th place in the GMC Jam, in which I entered A Dying Curiosity. For the Ludum Dare, which I made Lost for, I got the following results:
So yeah. I'll finish Descension soon, I promise!

A Dying Curiosity

So the GMC Jam ended yesterday, and I made a game for it called A Dying Curiosity. You can download it HERE. It's about a tree. I was unable to implement all things I wanted to, but I think it's still worth a play.

For those of wondering about the title, it's from a haiku I wrote for school. It was:

As she watched with her
Dying curiosity
Snow drifted gently

Ludum Dare Defeated.

So I did end up making a game for the Ludum Dare this weekend, called Lost. You can see its entry page HERE or download it HERE. It's a short hyperpixelated game where you explore a tiny world. Overall, I'm satisfied with it, but it seems like it's missing something.

Tiny World

Remember how in the last post I said I'd participate in the Ludum Dare unless the theme sucked? Well, the theme sucks. I still might make something for it, but probably not.

Ludum Dare...

...is coming! So yeah, it's about five hours away as I type this, and I TOTALLY GOING TO PARTICIPATE!
Unless the theme sucks and/or a power outage occurs.

Cruise!

I'm going on vacation! So I won't be able to work on my two projects(Player Two Start and Descension).
So yeah. In the meantime, you can look at these screenshots.

Player Two Start!

This would be a screenshot of the game I'm currently working on. I am naming it "Player Two Start" because previous playthroughs will have a permanent effect on the game's environment.

Please note that the green thing with the eyes is not the player-character. That's just a temp art for a bush.

Also, something that may or may not be a deharmonized sequel

New game!

So when I saw THIS GAME, I thought to myself "Wow, what a brilliant game!" I played it, then suddenly, I had the world's most brilliant idea.

I present to you, the one-pixel game:
Yes, this is a game consisting of ONLY ONE PIXEL! This is a screenshot that has been scaled up 100x, but I assure you that in the game it will be actual size.

Anyway, I expect it to be finished in about 2015, and until then, I won't make any other games. So yeah.

BLOBQUEST

So remember how I said I was working on DESCENSION? Well, I still am. I just got a bit distracted when I saw the Mini Ludum Dare. Anyway, the theme was "Doodles", and the idea was to make a doodle and base a game around it.
This was my doodle (Which I drew in 3 minutes):
So I made a game based on it, and this was how it turned out:
It didn't really come out the way I envisioned. The instant I uploaded it, I realized there were a million things that I should have changed about it. For instance, I didn't add any music, which could have made the game a lot better. Also, I'm not really happy about the graphics
.
But it has many positives. The ability to instantly upgrade your stats is interesting. Another thing I like about it is that you really need to think about your strategy in order to beat this.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. Either way, you can download it HERE

Back to work!

So I'm still working on DESCENSION. I haven't been working on it as much as I should have been lately, but I'm back to working on it.

In other news, I figured out how to make different pages on my blog. So I made a page for my games.

₱ΘɴḠ

I'm not sure how to describe ₱ΘɴḠ. It is a bizarre 2-player pong clone where something changes about the game every time the ball goes off-screen, whether it causes the screen to rotate or causes the ball to move weirdly. You can download it HERE.

Anyway, I'll probably release Descension next (I probably should've been working on that when I made this. Oops.), and then maybe something for the EGP.

Descension

So, I'm remaking my pirate kart game Seconds Left with better graphics, better jumping, better level design and better everything. I renamed it, so it is now called "Descension", which is a much better title (in my opinion anyways).

More Pirate Kart games

Yesterday, I talked about some of the games I made for the GDC Pirate Kart. Well, I made two more games after I posted that.
The first one is named Seconds Left, and it is a cruel platform game which forces you to go to the previous screen if you die, or if time runs out. I might actually improve it, and add more levels for it later, but until then, it can download it HERE.
The last game I made is called Two-Player Press-the-button to get more points! (shown above, yes that IS a screenshot) is a game about cheating. It's bare of any polish, but if you want to play it, it can be downloaded HERE

Update + Pirate Kart

Heeding the advice of my friends, I updated the Minimalist Roguelike. Plenty of glitches have been fixed, plus it now has magic, stairs and high scores! The new version is available HERE.
In other news, I've been making games  for the GDC Pirate Kart. I've made four games so far, and they're all pretty stupid. Here they are:
Endurance breakout was one of the games I made. It is like breakout, except the ball moves really slow. It probably takes a half hour to beat this game, it's so slow. It can be downloaded HERE.

Choose Your Weapon is a short, joke game. It can be downloaded HERE.
HOLEQUEST is a game made with the text adventure engine I made. It would actually be kind of good if I programmed enough commands for it, and not the 30ish that I thought of. It can be downloaded HERE.
Virtual Staring Contest Tournament Edition is as stupid as it sounds. You can download it HERE.

Minimalistic Roguelike

For whatever reason, I decided to make a roguelike game. This roguelike game was made in three hours. It shows.

Anyway, it's not that great. But if you do want to play, you'll probably want to know what is going on. Use the arrow keys to move around (you're the guy in the center of the screen). Your health is shown on you(the closer you are to green, the more health you have) and you'll die if you run out of health. Monsters are represented by red, and will take away your health. Your goal is to collect all the coins in the level, which are represented by yellow squares. Blue squares are fountains of health, and will restore your health.

You can play the game HERE.

Text adventure project

My next project is an old-school text adventure. I have big plans for it, so it probably won't be released for a while.

In other news, I will probably be participating in THIS GAME JAM. It sounds epic, and I think I'd enjoy it.

Deharmonized released!

Deharmonized, formerly known as "Churchlike Reharmonized Shopping", has been released! You can download this bizarre and abstract game HERE. I don't expect people to understand it, but that's okay. It's less of a game and more of an experience, in my opinion.

Anyway, I'll start working on something awesome soon. Not sure what, but it will be awesome.

Sunday, February 5, 2012

Almost done...

Do you know this is? This is what it looks like to be ALMOST FINISHED with your abstract game. All I need to do is add some finishing touches, and a bizarre "ending".

UPDATE

Still working on Churchlike Reharmonized Shopping, and I will definitely change its name soon. Anyway, here are some more recent screenshots:

Also, I am thinking of doing THIS thing. I don't have an idea for it, but if I think of something, I'll be sure to enter.

Saturday, January 28, 2012

What?!?!?

Remember how I said I was working on this? Well, for whatever reason, I decided to stop working on that and I started working on this. I currently am calling it "Churchlike Reharmonized Shopping". No, I don't know why I calling it that. Those were just the first three words I thought of.

Screenshots of a WIP

A game I just started working on. Look at the pretty pixels! A friend of mine suggested it be called "Don't fear the gravity", which is a bizarre name and I like it. I expect this game to be done in a week or two.

Misdirection released!

Today, I finished Misdirection! It only has nine levels, but most people won't get past level 6, because this game is ridiculously hard. The link to download it is right HERE, and the music is from HERE.

New game

You know that extremely pixelated game featuring an armless man that I said I was working on? Forget about it. For some reason I lost interest in it (Maybe because it was somewhat boring), and today I started making this semi-experimental game:
I am currently calling it "Direction and Purpose", for no particular reason.I expect it will be done before Tuesday.

Ludum dare results!

The ludum dare results came back, and I found out how I did. I got 223rd overall, which sounds bad, but it means I beat 668 people, which is pretty good!
My full results:

INSERT POST TITLE HERE

Sorry about not writing for a long time. Although, no one is reading this, so it really doesn't matter if I post or not. I've been receiving feedback about my ludum dare entry, GOODBYE. Its reception is mostly positive, although a few people think that it's too hard.

Anyway, I am working on something that looks like this, right now:
I currently don't have a name for this game yet, so I am currently calling it "A extremely pixelated adventure featuring an armless man", or AEPAFAAM for short. I will think of a better name soon.
